According to skin cancer charity Melanoma UK exposure to tanning beds before the age of 30 increases a person’s risk of developing melanoma by 75%, and young people who regularly use tanning beds are 8 times more likely to develop melanoma than people who have never used them.
As luxury sunless tanning brand Bronzie launch their new Ultimate Fake Tan range, they have teamed up with Melanoma UK to spread awareness, help raise vital funds, and support Melanoma UK in their campaign to follow in Australia’s footsteps and ban the use of tanning beds in the UK.
Indoor tanning beds are proven to cause cancer and have been classified into the highest cancer risk category by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Cancer Research (IARC). It is estimated by 2025, treatment of skin cancers will cost the NHS £465m a year.
As a brand dedicated to helping people achieve a flawless tan, in a safe way, we have a duty to take action and it is an honour to work with Melanoma UK to help them educate young people on the dangers of tanning beds."
- Leanne LeGuen, Bronzie Founder
"As a professional tanner I see first-hand the positive effect that having a gorgeous tan can have on people’s self-esteem.
However it is absolutely vital that we encourage people to opt for a safe sunless tan as opposed to tanning beds. It significantly reduces the chance of developing life-threatening Melanoma and also takes the pressure off the NHS which is so important. I’m so proud to be an ambassador for Melanoma UK and help spread the word."
- Sophie Tague, Tanning Expert and Melanoma UK Ambassador
