Tan safely in style

Here at Bronzie, it’s important that all of our Bronzie Babez can tan in style and tan safely! That’s why we’ve set up this Tanning Safely page to show you just how dangerous sun beds can be.

Since 2010, the government made it illegal for anyone under 18 to use sun beds! But research by Cancer Research UK found that 50% of females in Liverpool aged between 15-17 years old had used a sun bed. The research also found that 2 out of 5 sun bed users users aged 11-17 years old in Liverpool use sun beds at least once a week!

DID YOU KNOW THAT 1 USE OF A SUN BED CAN TRIGGER SKIN CANCER?!

Committed users are typically between 14-17 years old using sun beds 1-2 times a week.

Burning or going red under a sunbed is a sign that you have seriously harmed your skin. UV can penetrate deep into the skin’s layers and damage the DNA in our skin cells. Some of the damage may happen before you get burnt or your skin goes red. Cells damaged by UV are at greater risk of mutating and then dividing uncontrollably, which is what happens in cancer, and Surgical treatment for skin cancer can result in serious scarring, and melanoma can be fatal.

USING SUNBEDS FOR THE FIRST TIME BEFORE THE AGE OF 35 INCREASES THE RISK OF DEVELOPING MELANOMA SKIN CANCER BY NEARLY 60%

No matter how much UV you receive, there comes a point when your skin won’t get any darker. Using sunbeds can make your skin coarse, leathery and wrinkled. Trying to increase a tan by having more sunbed sessions or using a sunbed after sunbathing is harmful.

Modern sunbeds emit mostly UVA rays, but UVB rays can make up anywhere from 0.5-4% of their total output. These emissions can be comparable to the midday sun. And the amount of UVA given off can be 10-15 times higher than the midday sun.

So… the moral of the story? Don’t use Sun Beds! We don’t want you guys getting hurt!! The best way to stay looking beautifully brown is by getting a spray tan!
